Boulevard of Dreams

Boulevard of Dreams

The Sunset Strip.  West Hollywood. Sunset Boulevard. The Roxy. The Whiskey a Go Go. The Rainbow Bar. They’re all there…

The Heathen Girls called it The Boulevard of Dreams. (If you don’t know about the Atlanta band The Heathen Girls…find out)

Riots over curfews aimed at curbing the rock and rollers on the strip prompted Stephen Stills to write the iconic For What It’s Worth (Stop, Hey What’s That Sound).

Kerouac was there. The Counter culture was always there. Writers. Poets. Artists. Mobsters. Movie Stars. Gamblers. Bootleggers.  Folk singers.  Their footprints are etched in the Sunset Strip.

It’s a place married to it all. Well, probably more like shacked up to it all…but it’s that kinda place.

So if you’re a rebellious 16 year old girl with a car, and you’re growing up in Ventura County, 40 miles north of LA, where else would you go when you skipped school…allegedly!?  That 16 year old grew up to be photographer Sloan Carroll Rainwater. In this double exposure, Sloan blends the backdrop of her restless youth with our friend and prolific singer/songwriter, Marvin Jackson.

Marvin was the perfect “in through the Out Door” counter-culture touring musician who laid down his instrument to be a mainstream dad, only to figure out how to run against the grain again. He seems absolutely perfect to stand against the backdrop of Sunset Strip.

I’m kinda getting into this Hollywood thing.

If you need me, I’ll be in Bungalow 3 at Chateau Marmont.
